Brian Lamb[Edit][Delete]: Summer Listening and Viewing From UbuWeb, Abject learning [Edit][Delete]Abject Learning [Edit][Delete] June 29, 2006
[link: Hits] Some good stuff here. Sites like Ubuweb are what's great about the net. Brian Lamb picks up on the site's Glenn Gould CBC shows; what caught my eye was the link to FluxFilms compiled by George Maciunas. I went to a Fluxus exhibition in Copenhagen when I was there in the spring and actually put some photos and videos on my website. Not that anybody was actually interested, but I liked them. Stephen Downes[Edit][Delete]: Adults and MySpace (2), Half an Hour [Edit][Delete] June 29, 2006
[link: 12 Hits] OK, yes, I did get some forms filled out today, you'll be happy to know, and I also found time to write this follow-up to my earlier post on adults and MySpace, a response to the comment by Ritchie Boyd (see his link below). [Tags: ] [Comment] [Edit] [Delete] [Spam]

Lisa Galarneau[Edit][Delete]: GLS Podcasts, socialstudygames.com [Edit][Delete] June 29, 2006
[link: 4 Hits] As Lisa Galarneau writes, the quality of these podcasts is a bit spotty, but she certainly chose interesting people - James Paul Gee and John Seely Brown, among others - with whom to "experiment" in podcasting about the use of games in learning. You can also find some conference summary notes on her Social Study games site. [Tags: , , ] [Comment] [Edit] [Delete] [Spam]

Christian Long[Edit][Delete]: A Worthy Pass-Through in the Edu-Blogosphere, think:lab [Edit][Delete] June 29, 2006
[link: 19 Hits] More blogs that may be new to you. In this post, Christian Long points to Andrew Pass, who writes, The Current Events in Education. Also, Patric Dunn, who has recently launched Networked Learning Design, blogs at Occasional Rants. I would also like to highlight Digital Latchkey, by J. Ritchie Boyd, which was started as a consequence of an email dialoguie between the two of us. Worth noting is his longer response to my post on adults and MySpace. Dave Cormier[Edit][Delete]: At the Risk of Disagreeing With Jay Rosen..., June 29, 2006
[link: 4 Hits] Reacting to the Jay Rosen article linked here yesterday, Dave Cormier cautions that "there will be a rebuttall, and it will not be televised. It will be subtle. People will be bought out." Count on it. History is not inevitable. "If change is going to happen, everyone needs to be emancipated. Emancipation, in the sense of empowerement to publish, to have voice, to be able to control your destiny, is a very, very long way off. The revolution, if there is ever to be one, is going to take years of concerted effort." Quite right. It already has. And it certainly will. [Tags: ] [Comment] [Edit] [Delete] [Spam]

Associated Press.[Edit][Delete]: A Lesson in Finance: Teachers Sell Their Original Work Online, Cnn [Edit][Delete]CNN [Edit][Delete] June 29, 2006
[link: 4 Hits] As I commented in Dean Shareski's post, it seems like one of these articles comes up every few months. So will teachers make a lot of money selling their lessons online? I wouldn't bet on it. [Tags: ] [Comment] [Edit] [Delete] [Spam]

I want and visualize and aspire toward a system of society and learning where each person is able to rise to his or her fullest potential without social or financial encumberance, where they may express themselves fully and without reservation through art, writing, athletics, invention, or even through their avocations or lifestyle.

Where they are able to form networks of meaningful and rewarding relationships with their peers, with people who share the same interests or hobbies, the same political or religious affiliations - or different interests or affiliations, as the case may be.

This to me is a society where knowledge and learning are public goods, freely created and shared, not hoarded or withheld in order to extract wealth or influence.

This is what I aspire toward, this is what I work toward. - Stephen Downes
