Learning Object Metadata is... (dead?); Long live Learning Object Metadata!

Is Learning Object Metadata (LOM) experiencing a rebirth? It was, as this item notes, recently reaffirmed as an IEEE standard (mostly, I would say, for lack of a viable alternative). But there's also a spike in searches for it, according to Google, perhaps in relation to a corresponding increase in searches for open educational resources (OERs). The only test that matters is whether it is useful, as something other than as an academic artefact.

Google insight results seem to change over the course of the day. This morning I did a screen capture the same results that Stephen (and I) was looking at yesterday morning. That is what you'll now see on the posting.

I would be inclined to explain the uptick in searches for the LOM and Cancore in terms of the beginning of a new school year in the Northern Hemisphere; but the numbers are too small to reliably indicate changes of this kind.
