Ready for Prime Time: Open Source Programs for the K-12 Desktop
Another one of those lists - which are worth running from time to time because the software changes. Anyhow, I mostly agree witht he items posted here - I swear by Audacity and have no trouble recommending Moodle and Ubuntu. Others - such as Open Office - are a bit rougher. And I simply cannot use gimp for image editing, the interface is just too user-hostile. Steve Hargadon, Weblog, May 18, 2007. [Link] [Tags: none] [Previous][Next]Comments
try Gimpshop
Hi,
You might want to try Gimpshop. It's GIMP with a "Photoshop skin"
The menus and so forth have been reconfigured to look like Photoshop's menus and features. It's available at gimpshop.net

Interestingly enough, I use OpenOffice.org, and quite like it. Not perfect, but if you've tried Office 2007, dang good enough. (I hate hunting for standard menu items!) Also, many schools find that they have better backward compatibility with Office files using OO.org. Laura Talor, from Indiana, told the story of one district of 7,000 students that's saving $150,000 a year using OO. For me, at least, it stays on the list. [Comment] [Permalink] [Previous][Next]
