Learning outcomes, writes David Wiley, should be a combination of 'performance', 'criteria', and 'conditions'.  So "While people think 'without using generative AI' is a constraint imposed on assessments to prevent cheating, it's actually a condition added to a learning outcome." It's similar to research assignments of yore requiring students to use the library to look up sources "without using the internet". While I understand that AI use (or not) depends on the learning objective, I am honestly not sure how this would 'stop students from cheating' any more than the internet ban of the past would. As long as the student's 'learning objective' is 'get a degree' or simply 'pass the assignment' the motivation to satisfy the conditions isn't really there. Image: collegenp.
