Michael Feldstein looks at McGraw-Hill's SmartBook application, previously mentioned here in October. He calls it "their new personalized learning authoring system." Designed by a company called Area9, which Mc-Graw Hill acquired last year, "the heart of the platform is a set of algorithms designed to optimize the commitment of knowledge to long-term memory." It makes them good for drill-and-kill e-learning, he suggests. The product points to the companies expectations of the future. "They are making a bet against the software as a replacement for the teacher and against big data." I think these are good bets.
