Because this was a 'systematic review' of the literature a lot of possible content was probably overlooked. Still, what content was studied was studied pretty thorogughly, those the small number (38)  of papers makes the statistical element of the study a bit unreliable. What we do find useful is the lists of learning content and application domains in which VR is being used, as well as the list of data analysis and research methods employed. The authors are critical of the fact that so few studies were based in learning theories (those that were tended to be based in experiential learning, which I guess makes sense). I'm not sure learning theories would be helpful at this point (if ever).

A Failed SaaS Postmortem
Matt Layman, 2019/12/19

This article describes the design, development and eventual failure of an educational application, College Conductor. There are some good lessons here. Especially this: "As developers and technologists, many of us enjoy steeping in the technology purely for the sake of it. There is so much to learn and so many ways to apply software that it is easy to lose yourself in that tinkering. While that’s personally useful, especially if you need to grow your skills, staying in that space is not helping others."

Project Connected Home over IP
2019/12/19

I learned via TWIG this morning about the Connected Home over IP (CHIP) project. Normally I wouldn't report on Yet Another Standards project but this one has Amazon, Apple, Google, IKEA, Legrand, NXP, Resideo, Samsung, Schneider Electric, and Signify (formerly Philips Lighting) all taking part. So this might mean that we're finally getting a unified Internet  of Things (IoT) ecosystem (about a decade after people started saying this would be a good idea). More from Technology Review, Google Blog, Bloomberg, and The Verge.
