This article describes the design, development and eventual failure of an educational application, College Conductor. There are some good lessons here. Especially this: "As developers and technologists, many of us enjoy steeping in the technology purely for the sake of it. There is so much to learn and so many ways to apply software that it is easy to lose yourself in that tinkering. While that's personally useful, especially if you need to grow your skills, staying in that space is not helping others."
