Some people are construction workers, writes Daniel Lemire, where progress is steady and moderate and not surprising, while others are gold prospector, where progress is unsteady, sometimes unexpected, but spectacular. I don't think I'm either of those - I'm not after the 1 in 100 shot at making it but, nor am I after the steady progress of a construction worker. I'm like someone erasing the blank spots on a map - I'm pretty sure I'm going to find something, it might be desert or forest, maybe it will be valuable and maybe not, but we won't discover the oil wells until long after I'm gone.
