Knowledge, Learning, Community

This article describes the open learning movement in four stages then adds a few points on what the fourth stage will take. The sages are (to use my own terms): open access, open educational resources, open practices, and open recognition. The challenge of the fourth stage is "to make a much stronger connection between what learners can do and the recognition of what they can do." What will it take? A system-wide response (it "cannot be left to individuals to figure out alone") and, for learners, "trusted proof of what they can do: clear records they control, plain ways of describing what they can do, and ways for others to rely on what learners show without asking them to prove everything again." I think people would generally support this, but the key question is, how to do it?
