Carlo Iacono has two points to make in this article: first, that the evidence very much fails to support the idea of 'cognitive debt' from AI use; and second, the narrative of cognitive debt - and other similar critique of AI - travels well because it helps preserve the privilege of a' thinking class'. "The demand to preserve unassisted thought defends the premium, and it does something else besides. It has become a purity ritual." I don't disagree with either point.
