Why did Springer-Nature retract two papers published by Max Planck in the 1940s? Download them now and you just get blank pages. Nobody knows for sure - it happened in 2011 - but it appears to have been for copyright reasons. Apparently Planck's content was too similar to earlier content. This of course is historical revisionism of the worst sort.
