This article makes and supports three core arguments: First, "computers are about creative opportunities, not consumption and recall," second, "computers are a tool that is ubiquitous in the real world (so why not in the classroom)," and third, "computers are not meant to support an old system, they are meant to change it." There's also a compelling quote from Seymour Papert: "One might say the computer is being used to program the child. In my vision, the child programs the computer, and in doing so, both acquires a sense of mastery over a piece of the most modern and powerful technology." It does indeed feel to me that the people offering arguments against the use of computers are also those who are attempting to program, and not liberate, their students. Via Dean Shareski.
