I suppose 'context engineering' will become the next 'prompt engineering', in other words, the creation of a 'profession' out of (almost) nothing. What is context engineering? "Whatever it take," argues Jon Udell, "to anchor AI agents to "ground truth". This isn't a new concept in computer science; data managers will often refer to a 'source of truth' in a database, that is, the one place where a data element (which may be propagated across different systems) is definitively defined. And it's always a back-and-forth between the people who create the data and the people who use the data. The same with defining ground truth. "It's becoming a partnership in which agent-friendly docs helps us work with agents to create more and better agent-friendly docs, while a docs-aware MCP server helps us work with agents to produce software in a docs-informed way."
