Here's the argument: "You'd never say 'Hey, if you prefer pencil and paper instead of Excel, no problem! Take your time, friend-o!' You require certain tools. You mandated the shift from typewriters to Word processors, from fax machines to email, from in-person meetings to Zoom calls during the pandemic. AI needs the same treatment." I see the point but I don't agree. Mostly these shifts weren't mandated; they resulted as much from employees pushing management to adopt the new tech so they could get their jobs done. And that would create free time in their schedule (albeit briefly, as management then ramped up productivity requirements). My thinking on reading this article is that this time it needs to be different: where it shouldn't matter what tool we use or how much time we take, and where we're paid based on (quality of) output.
