As I type I'm watching a presentation from Wendy Rodgers, UPEI president and chair of the Council of Canadian Academies' (CCA) Expert Panel on EDI Practices for Impactful Change, and she refers to this report (206 page PDF). It's worth discussing equity, diversity and inclusion (EDI) especially in the light of new technologies in learning (especially highlighted by the fact that in some jurisdictions people are no longer free to pursue these topics). To me, the topic is important because, among other things, "Inclusive admissions procedures, bridge and preparatory programs, and financial aid can increase the enrollment, retention, and graduation rates of students from underrepresented groups." In turn - and this was the subject of Rodgers's talk - this impacts how research ethics boards consider their reviews of projects and programs.
