Cory Doctorow points to the major risk of migrating to Bluesky - they've taken VC funding and haven't fully decentralized yet, which means they could still lock in their users and subject them to advertising or whatever else the VCs will help earn their money back (with a sizeable profit). There are parts that are open source and stand-alone, I would note, with the most notable being the personal data server (PDS). But accounts and identity are still locked down, and until you can migrate your identity (and with it your following and followers) you're stuck.
