In recent weeks, people unhappy with Mastodon project talked about forking the project in a different direction. It's harder than it looks. "Despite all of its success, Mastodon remains a tiny project with only a handful of full-time devs working on it, and a few long-time volunteers. Mastodon GmbH currently employs 2.5 people to work on the code full-time. Very few people know the ins and outs of the platform as well as the original team does, and trying to pull in different people's contributions on a piecemeal basis isn't sustainable."
