Ghost - an open source browser platform similar to but much simpler than WordPress - has announced that it will be federating over ActivityPub. In this way it joins the many other content services that have joined the open federation. I note - reading the whole page - that Ghost suggests "there are multiple ways of supporting gated access to content in ActivityPub, and we're going to do our best to create a seamless experience both for publishers and for readers." My view: I don't care whether people pay for or charge for content. That's totally up to them. What I don't want is to be presented with a link to something only to find that link blocked by a paywall. So, as long as they can ensure I never see the gated content, and doesn't just become marketing spam in my feed, I'm fine with it. Via Dave Lane.
