Back in the days when newspapers were printed on paper and going down to the coffee shop four an hour or so on a Sunday morning was a thing I would spend that time working on my NY Times crossword puzzle, republished locally. I never considered it a threat to my well-being; quite to opposite, actually. But this article recounts (with some hilarity) the great crossword panic of the 1920s with fears ranging from "idling workers, distracted housewives and a decline in reading." Oh! We are so concerned about the morality of others.
