Todayès Mastodon/Twitter update. We begin with quite a good overview and introduction to Mastodon from the Markup. "Each instance has its own policies to define its community, including the default language, content moderation standards, topics, and general house rules." There's a suggestion via Slashdot that Tumblr will add support for ActivityPub, the open, decentralized social networking protocol behind Mastodon. Also: two helpers from Jim Groom: preparing to install Mastodon on Reclaim Cloud, and installing Mastodon on Reclaim Cloud (can't wait to try, but I'm traveling). Also: Miguel Guhlin on crossposting to Mastodon from RSS (my efforts to use IFTTT failed, so eventually I just wrote my own code). And, the great Mastodon influx, from Brain Baking. Oh, and the phrase of the day is virtual private server (VPS), which shows up in a few of these articles.
