Though presented as a news article, I think we should regard this post from Global to be as opinionated as anything we'll read on Twitter or Facebook. And this is important to keep in mind when we read one form of media calling for the regulation of another. Not that I'm saying these isn't a need to put a lid on the massive disinformation campaigns coming through social networks. But social media didn't invent misinformation; that was accomplished by traditional media and advertising. When the Global report says "experts are unimpressed" and then quotes only someone from the Canadian Civil Liberties Association, they are indulging in the same sort of practice they criticize in social media. If they urge that we, say, to break up social media, perhaps they should also urge breaking up large telecommunications companies and the media companies they own. Just saying.
