Counting Credentials

I wonder what the number would be globally. As this article reports, "In April, a research study commissioned by Credential Engine counted at least 334,114 credentials in the U.S." Credential Engine is a non-profit trying to get a handle on the proliferation of educational credentials. I think they've found a pain point. Because there are so many credentials, it's easy for people to fake credentials, or to qualify for bogus credentials. We can go in one of two directions: we can manage credentials in such a way as to ensure that they are trustworthy. Or we can find a more trustworthy was of assessing qualifications directly. I prefer the latter.
