I participated in an online conference offered by the Natural Resources Canada (NRCan) IN-spire team on the future of learning and work. Part of it discussed learning - hence my presentation - and part of it described new models for work. It's similar to some project work we are doing as part of LPSS, for example, the Concierge service for small and medium sized enterprises. During the presentations we were referred to this report (36 page PDF) from Deloitte, and in particular, a project called 'GovCloud', which proposes "a cloud-based government workforce, or GovCloud, could comprise employees who undertake creative, problem-focused work. Rather than existing in any single agency, these workers could reside in the cloud, making them truly government-wide employees." There are opportunities, sure, but also challenges. Related is a piece by William Eggers and Howard Yeung on GovCloud for the Canadian Government Executive site.
