Theend game for Coursera always was to charge money for access to their 'open' courses. We knew that from the day they took venture capital (VC) funding for way more than their technology, or their audience share, was worth. So here's what the company announced this week: "When you enroll in certain courses, you'll be asked to pay a small fee (or apply for Coursera's financial aid program) if you'd like to access graded assignments or earn a Course Certificate." Meet the new boss. Same as the old boss.
