Grades are bad for learning at school and in the workplace, says Michele Martin citing Alfie Kohn. "How can we structure social media participation so that it isn't dependent on external rewards? How do we help people see that effective use of social media can be rewarding in its own right?" Much social media participation, through blogs, photos and videos, is intrinsically motivated, so the Web would be a good model for our schools and workplaces to look at. -HJ
