I read something today saying that a major area of potential application of the Semantic Web is in the area of e-Health. That's probably because Web 2.0 designers haven't wrapped their minds around it. Yet. If I could manage my own health care records, providing access only on an as-needed basis (and keeping the important stuff on my USB key, just in case), why would I entrust this to any doctor or hospital (much less any insurance company)? And don't even get me going about what happens when you mash-up personal learning with personal health. the big companies want the semantic web because it creates one huge massive database. People will want Web 2.0, because it gives them control. related: Tirekicking Health Vault.
