Wow. This is one of these services that could become huge in time. GetCited is an online database of authors and publications. The site has been seeded with 3,250,000 publications and 315,000 identities (not including, I might add, me). The creators are encouraging academics to sign up and add their work. What is interesting is that one person can edit another person's information: if you didn't like one of my papers, you can rate it poorly, for example. GetCited provides a variety of search options. The site's revenue model is not clear, though it may act as a clearing house for online publishers. Advertising is being solicited. This is a major development which, if it takes off, could have a significant impact on the future of academic life.
