You may not be able to tell from some of today's MOOCs, but the primary opponent of MOOC-like education is the advocate of content-based direct instruction - the Kirschners and Swellers and Willinghams of the world. They have had success advocating things like core content knowledge and arguing that there is no such thing as learning styles. But meanwhile, people like Ken Robinson talk of the value of diversity and individual creativity, and the MOOCS that *we* have created are founded on the principles of choice and personal learning.
