The story continues. "As the out-of-pocket costs of a college education go up faster than incomes, it's pricing low and medium income families out of a college education." Two things need to happen. First, we need to create lower-cost alternatives to traditional college and university. Second, we need to ensure these alternatives receive appropriate recognition, so we are not simply creating a new type of underclass. We have to put an end to the idea that people are 'better' because they went to Harvard, Yale, or whatever. That's not so much a technology issue as a social issue, but it's something technology can (and should) address. See also: Student debt has heavy [rice; and The devaluation of higher learning.
