Thanks to those of you who wrote in to point out my error. In yesterday's newsletter I wrote that students at USC face expulsion if they are caught trading files. Not so: they merely face losing their internet access. But the story got blurred by the summary on Slashdot, which made the same error. I got caught by the error in the Slashdot summary and the different information in the Wired story never did enter my brain. My only defense is that I wrote yesterday's newsletter while taking part in a major planning meeting for a national LO repository network. The joy of wireless access; the perils of wireless access. Now I'm wondering what I missed at the meeting.
