This item, found via Digg (which means everyone in the world has already seen it, right?) delivers on both counts: the applications are freeware, and I have, mostly, never heard of them. Of course, they're Windows applications, and Windows is my least frequently used OS these days. Still, I agree, they look like pretty good applications.
