Did you watch live streaming video of the inauguration of U.S. President Barack Obama on Jan. 20? If you tapped into the CNN feed, then you probably have P2P software installed on your machine that you don't know about. Operating much like BitTorrent, the application, Octoshape, delivered the feed from your computer to other users - saving CNN the cost of the bandwidth to deliver the video (passing that cost along to you and your ISP instead). There's nothing inherently wrong with such an approach to streaming video - it has a lot to recommend it - but it needs to be done with the full knowledge and consent of the people using it. Anyhow, this article also has instructions on how to remove the application (which may still be monitoring and managing your outbound traffic).
