Brainify
Murray Goldberg, the person who created WebCT, has sent news of list latest creation to what seems to be every edublogger. "Brainify is an academic social bookmarking and community site for university and college students... Collect and share the academic websites that other students found useful in their courses." The interesting bit is that, if you add a resource, you own a bit of Brainify, which you collect as your share of the 30 percent that will be given back to users should the site ever be sold. Re: Brainify
right, but why did *you* blog it? That's exactly what he wanted with the (arguably very targeted) mass mailout - increased google juice/free marketing. [Comment] [Permalink] [Previous][Next]
Re: Brainify
Because it's Murray Goldberg, because it's widely mentioned, and because it has some novelty. Sometimes people in marketing get what they want - I've learned to live with that, and to not sit on a notable link just because some person somewhere benefits from it. Re: Brainify
Hey Guys - let me say a word about why I sent an e-mail announcing what I am working on to a number of bloggers.
First, as a faculty member and a long time veteran of educational technologies, you have to understand that I know a lot of people in this community. I consider myself a part of this community. So yes - I want the community to know.
Second, it is true - I am looking for feedback on my work - that is why I sent the note. But that is likely the only benefit I'll derive from the announcement. Remember - Brainify is actually not for you (ed tech practitioners) at all. It is for students. By and large, I suspect the percentage of ed tech blog readers who are students is small. And those who are students are not likely the ones who might find Brainify useful. So my intent was feedback - not some other benefit.
I remember this community (the ed tech community) as the most supportive, collegial and energetic professional community I have ever been a part of. Those of us who were some of the founding members many years ago certainly felt that way. That was the spirit in which I made the announcement to a community I feel that I am a part of.
I am actually quite excited about Brainify. I think it is needed and could be wonderful for students if it takes off. I hope I am on track, but would love to get all the feedback I can. Isn't that what this community is all about?
Sincere best regards - Murray [Comment]
