eLearn Magazine 2008 Predictions Are Out!

Karl Kapp lauds the release of this year's predictions, an annual staple from eLearn Magazine. As Kapp notes, there was a bit more pressure this year - if it's any consolation, I felt the pressure too! Kark Kapp, Kapp Notes, January 23, 2008. [Link] [Tags: none] [Previous][Next]

Re: eLearning Magazine 2008 Predications Are Out!

Stephen, you appreciate well-crafted language, so perhaps you can help explain why the terms predication and prediction are used interchangeably in that article? I've seem this phenomenon a few times recently, just intrigued as to their use of words. Seems awfully like the "controller/comptroller" trend of a few years back. It is a pretty funny result. I didn't even notice it. [Comment] [Permalink] [Previous][Next]

Re: eLearning Magazine 2008 Predictions Are Out!

Dear Anymouse and Stephen,

The type was in the actual prediction sent to me and I didn't catch it, nor did it get caught in the editing process. However I saw it last night and it has been fixed. Sorry about that.

Yes, it is funny how typos can propagate, isn't it. :) [Comment] [Permalink] [Previous][Next]

For your amusement and edification, see http://bigpicture.typepad.com/writing/2007/12/washington-post.html:

"The Washington Post's Style Invitational also asked readers to take any word from the dictionary, alter it by adding, subtracting, or changing one letter, and supply a new definition." A few I especially liked:

Bozone (n.): The substance surrounding stupid people that stops bright ideas from penetrating. The bozone layer, unfortunately, shows little sign of breaking down in the near future.
Giraffiti (n): Vandalism spray-painted very, very high.
Sarchasm (n): The gulf between the author of sarcastic wit and the person who doesn't get it. [Comment] [Permalink] [Previous][Next]

Re: eLearn Magazine 2008 Predictions Are Out!

Thank you for pointing this out. It really bothered me that no k-12 teacher was asked to speak out (unless that is hidden in someone's title.)

Here are my thoughts.

The grassroots movement of teachers to connect will become more pronounced in 2008 with administrators, researchers, and consultants having to take notice. Teachers will wonder why they need "facilitators" when it is more efficiently done themselves and districts will realize that teachers need time to be "teacherpreneurs" as they create and collaborate on projects with their colleagues around the world. E-Learning will become an integral part of the face to face classroom with students learning to collaborate not only with their seatmate but with teammates from around the world.
