OpenLearn Unit Link Map

I think that when the mind-maps are relatively simple, and show some structure, as in the case of the wiki mindmap at the top of the page, thy can be an intuitive aid to understanding. Clutter them up, producing nothing more than long lists of things, as in the T180 diagram lower down in the page, and you produce no more understanding than you would have with a text-based bullet list. Re: OpenLearn Unit Link Map

Ok - point taken - but give me a chance! The T180 links were a proof of concept done in 20 mins or so to see how easy it was to use that mind mapper widget with resources I already had in a list generating format.

When I get a chance, I'll explore using the mindmapper to display things with a little more structure.

First thing is - as I get up to speed with the mindmapper document schema - a version of the links scraped from the unit by section, with maybe some 'related topics' links identified using the yahoo content analyser.

I also need to see whether the flash widget can cope with media files etc. If it can then I'll just see what the widget looks like display the media assets stripped from a course unit.

Re: OpenLearn Unit Link Map

It's not just the T180 map - 99 percent of the mindmaps I've seen look like it - it was actually the wiki minmap that caught my attention, because it was simple and did have structure. [Comment] [Permalink] [Previous][Next]

Okay - agreed.

What caught me up short with really loving the wikimap was when i realised all it was doing was re-presenting the links scraped from the page. I thought there was some sort of content tagging going and links were being created that way.

Anyway - here's pass 2 of seeing how far the mapper can be used to display links etc mined from openlearn xml. You'll see there is a bit of structure...
