Self Interest and Self Government

3rd Annual Canadian Graduate Students' Conference in Philosophy, St. John's, Newfoundland, Memorial University of Newfoundland.

This talk traces the progression of the companion theses of self-interest and self-government through the philosophies of Locke, Rousseau and Mill. Very often the depiction of self-interest, which is a negative trait, is misrepresentative of self-government, which is a positive trait. The paper was accepted but I couldn't make the trip, and it was read for me.

Lecture, Nov 11, 1989.
