Steve Jobs speech to graduates
This is a wonderful
speech given by Steve Jobs to Stanford graduates. Read this! "Sometimes life hits you in the head with a brick. Don't lose faith. I'm convinced that the only thing that kept me going was that I loved what I did. You've got to find what you love. And that is as true for your work as it is for your lovers. Your work is going to fill a large part of your life, and the only way to be truly satisfied is to do what you believe is great work. And the only way to do From

The change a'comin'
Terry Heaton blogs about a "think tank" confab at Ball State University where he became more convinced than ever that the mainstream press is on the precipice. I have that sense more and more, too, although I couldn't quantify it or even argue for it. You know how you feel when the wind blows a little colder than usual and there's a drop in the air pressure? That's how I feel. Something is on the way. [Technorati tag: media]... From

A True Redemption for the Dark Knight
First, a spoiler-free executive summary: do yourself a favor and forget all the Batman movies you've seen. Yes, even the first one. All of them pale in comparison to Batman Begins. The reasons are simple: it makes the best use of the medium, and the focus of the movie is in the right direction. I do not focus on story details, but depending on your spoiler sensitivity, reader discretion is advised. From

How to not make your girlfriend feel good
Today after the WABC Father's Day Fight Against Prostate Cancer 5 mile race in Central Park, New York City: Him: So how'd you do? Me: Not too badly. I ran about nine and a half minute miles. I don't know though, it seems like I should be able to go faster than that. Him: Yeah, I watched the eight minute milers and they don't look that different from you. Me: Yeah, sometimes people pass me and I see them and think, I should be able to go that fast. Him: Yeah, like this guy today. He was doing six minute miles, and he was in his sixties. And From

The Record Industry is Doomed
There are any number of opinions on who's right/wrong or winning/losing the current battle between the recording industry and file sharers. But I can't help thinking everyone is missing the point a little. The record industry as we know it is doomed, whether we like it or not. From

How to set an Eco-Drive watch
I got an Citizen Eco-Drive watch off eBay a few of months ago. As I blogged, the instructions for setting it are incomprehensible. So I posted my own instructions into the entry for Eco-Drive at Wikipedia . But I'm afraid an editor will take it down since I think Wikipedia doesn't like "how-to" articles. So, I'm going to post it here, just in case. How to set a Citizen Eco-Drive watch The English-language instructions for setting Eco-Drive watches are close to incomprehensible. Top Three Links I Always Wanted to Blog (But Somehow Couldn't)
OK, let's face it, for far too long I've not been mindful of
lesson 1 of blogging: Do not put off the important posts. Which I've done countless times by now, always feeling I couldn't do the topics justice just right now. Enough! cries my poor blogger-heart. So I'm finally taking time away from sleeping to redress this. So without further ado, here are the three most important links I've hung onto, but couldn't bring myself to blog (yet). From

Collaboration issues
The problem with collaborative learning. I like
what Evan has to say about collaborative learning; that in many 'real world' contexts collaboration is not encouraged and a reliance on collaboration can be a hindrance. It's a fair comment, and an experience I think most of us will have had. It's also a bit sad. But isn't this where education has a real opportunity to impact on real life... or are we blindly, collaboratively, heading down the wrong path?[
