Dear Amazon Subscriber,

Thank you for subscribing to Clarkesworld at Amazon. Unfortunately, they have decided to discontinue their Kindle subscription program for all magazines effective September 2023. This is a major financial blow to a small publication like ours and we hope that you’ll consider restarting your subscription at one of the following places instead.

Direct from us:

PATREON – Patreon is a service that allows us to connect more directly with our readers. Each month, you’ll receive an email informing you that your issue is ready for download. You’ll also gain access to a subscribers-only Discord server.

CLARKESWORLD CITIZENS – An alternate option to subscribing via Patreon, but offers essentially the same services fulfilled the same way. (EU/UK subscribers should use PATREON.)

Third parties we respect:

WEIGHTLESS BOOKS – Don’t let the vintage website design fool you. This is the best independent bookstore for your genre magazine needs. They also support mailing our files straight to your Kindle.

BARNES AND NOBLE – US-only. Probably not the best fit for former Amazon subscribers as their subscriptions are more geared towards their NOOK reader.

If this is farewell, we want to thank you for your time as a subscriber. Each one of you has played an important role in getting us where we are today. We couldn’t have done it without you.

Questions? Please feel free to email us.

FAQ

Where do you make the most money?

For the most part, it’s pennies in the difference. We want you to pick the one that works the best for you.

If I subscribe via Patreon or ClarkesworldCitizens, how do I get the files onto my Kindle?

With those services, you have to do this manually. You’ll need to download the EPUB edition from our subscription pickup site and send it to your Kindle. You can do this one of two ways.

1. The easiest method is to use this www.amazon.com/sendtokindle page.

2. Or you can configure your Kindle to load files you email it. Here’s Amazon’s directions for enabling that feature: www.amazon.com/sendtokindle/email.

We hope to add the ability to email files directly from our system to your Kindle in the future. (That will require one-time configuration on your end.)

What about the Kindle Unlimited Subscriptions?

Yes, that is an option, but you should know that KU is paying us less than half of what we used to receive from Amazon. That’s an unsustainable figure, so it’s better for the future of the magazine if you subscribe at any of the above places. We understand that might not be practical for some of you. We just ask KU subscribers to remember to open and read (for at least a few minutes) each issue. If you don’t open and read at least part of the issue, it won’t count towards our next payment from them.
