From time to time as you read OLDaily you see me get hot under the collar about certain issues (if you have the, um, fortune to hear me express my views in person you see me get even more so). That's because some of the decisions we make collectively about the internet will have a huge impact on the future. As columnist Dan Gillmor notes, "It took a series of smart decisions to create the Internet as an open network where innovation could thrive." But we need to keep making these smart decisions. Gillmor notes three areas where it is important that we get it right: preserving the freedom to create and innovate, the preservation of customer choice and competition policy, and maintaining security and liberty.
