[certificate in adult education]

Transfer of Credits

Advanced credits for courses may be given for other teaching certificates or professional education courses as follows:

Bachelor of Education Degree or equivalent:
Credit may be granted for up to 18 credit hours of course work for an Elementary or Secondary program. These courses usually are the Introduction to Instruction, Advanced Instructional Methods and other optional courses depending upon the course work completed.
Other education or university program course work:
Advanced credit may be given for appropriate university studies in a professional education context. This advanced credit, to a maximum of 18 credit hours, is usually applied to the Optional courses.
Prior Learning Assessment:
Advanced credit may be given for a combination of education through self-study, research, workshops or seminars, and relevant work experience verified through the Prior Learning Assessment process. This advanced credit, to a maximum of 18 credit hours, is usually applied to the Optional courses.

The Certificate in Adult Education program focuses on teaching in an adult learning environment. Therefore, a MINIMUM of 18 credit hours of course work MUST be taken from the courses in the Program of Studies. This should include the Course Design and Development and Course Implementation and Evaluation courses.

It is possible, however, after admission to the CAE program, to replace some of the Required Core or Optional courses with university courses from a graduate education program that are taken while concurrently registered in the CAE program.
