[certificate in adult education]

General Program Information [Page 2]

As the focus of the CAE program is the development of instructional skills, the objective of the CAE courses is to enhance the classroom instruction techniques and course organization skills essential for the successful delivery of adult education courses in full time or continuing education programs.

Therefore, the emphasis in the CAE program is on course design, lesson planning, instructional techniques, learning environment management, instructional resources and evaluation - all relating to adult education.

However, although instructors in colleges and other adult vocational programs are all adult educators, they have varied subject or vocational backgrounds. The CAE program is therefore a flexible one, consisting of four required core courses and three optional courses. The optional courses may be selected on the basis of individual need or interest. Manitoba Community College instructors are required to take a course developed by their college to meet its unique needs, the College Initiated Course, as one of their optional courses.
