Course Overview

This is the first of a series of seven courses that will instruct you in how to teach adults. It is an introductory course so it will introduce you to a number of concepts. Some of these concepts will be introduced to you again in much more depth in other courses (Advanced Instructional Methods) while with other concepts, you will be expected to become more proficient (writing objectives) in other courses.

The goal of this course is to help you learn the fundamentals of teaching adults. Other courses will expand this knowledge and these skills.

The course is divided into five sections:

  1. Fundamentals of adult learners
  2. Fundamentals of lesson planning
  3. Writing of instructional objectives
  4. Review of teaching strategies
  5. Review of evaluation instruments

Each of the sections will begin with an overview of the section with its objectives and list of slide shows or pages. Each slide show or page will include the objectives that are appropriate for it. Many of them will include self-assessments and/or practice exercises. These are included so that you become actively involved in the learning process and that you discover whether you understand the course content.
