This is a list of the appropriate general objective verbs that are non-measurable and/or non-observable. There are two exceptions in this list -- use and apply. These two verbs are both measurable and observable. Because these two verbs are so useful in the college environment, it has been determined that they can be used in writing general objectives too.

None of these verbs in this list are given a place in Bloom’s Taxonomy Verb List. All the verbs in the lisst are measurable and/or observable. The instructor determines at what level on Bloom’s the course will be taught. Therefore for the verb “know” the instructor will decide if knowing is at a knowledge level or evaluation level. It will be more clear defined when the specific learning objective are written.

Some examples of general objectives are:

  • Learners will understand marketing in society.
  • Learners will be able to comprehend compound interest.
  • Learners will be able to apply effective presentation skills.
  • Learners will be able to comprehend the fundamentals of work processing.
  • Learners will be able to use basic operating system functions.
  • Learners will be able to appreciate the company environment.
