Generation Y Students Choose Careers on Interests, Not Money A study conducted by ACER for The Smith Family has found that many Generation Y Australian students are choosing careers based on their interests, not money. The study of more than 1300 disadvantaged Year 11 and 12 students found that anticipated income does not factor in their plans to attend university. Rather, the type of role and how closely it aligns with their interests and abilities has emerged as the deciding factor for these teens rather than the potential size of their pay packet. A response to the proposal for an Australian Certificate of Education Curriculum Leadership Journal 4: 21 Geoff Riordan examines the proposed Australian Certificate of Education and addresses arguments against its development. Needs to be integrated with a national curriculum and not added as a 10th certificate or similar. Concerns that current incremental changes may, either by design or neglect, make the achievement of an Australian curriculum more difficult by deflecting attention and resources away from the larger, more important goal. $160 Million Back in the Pockets of University Students From next year, no university student will be forced to pay an up-front fee for services and amenities which have nothing to do with their studies. For some students, this will put more than $600 a year of their hard earned money back in their pockets. DEST Media release, 30 June 2006 From EdNA Online on July 2, 2006 at 10:30 p.m..

Australian Apprenticeships Australian Apprenticeships is the new name for the scheme formerly known as 'New Apprenticeships'. The name, Australian Apprenticeships, will reinforce that apprenticeships are a first-rate career option and as professionally, financially and personally rewarding as a university pathway. Under the scheme the Australian Government incentives and personal benefits programme are still the same. Australian Apprenticeships still encompass all apprenticeships and traineeships. They combine time at work with training and can be full-time, part-time or school-based. From EdNA Online on July 2, 2006 at 10:30 p.m..

Scientists create conditions under which light travels a mere 38 MPH Light, which travels in a vacuum at almost 300,000 kilometers per second (186,000 miles per second), takes only 8 and 1/3 minutes to journey from the Sun to the Earth.
