From EduBlogs to the Collective Consciousness
I'm at the ASTE conference in Anchorage, Alaska, where I conducted an all day seminar yesterday (the "Director's Cut") and a keynote address this morning. For the seminar I created a Jot wiki. Here are the PowerPoint slides from the keynote. I also have audio from the seminar - Part One, Part Two, each about 18 megabytes. And audio from the keynote, about 9 megabytes.[Tags: Podcasting] [Comment]

Joseph Hart[Edit][Delete]: Rick Reis's Tomorrow's Professor Blog, EduResources [Edit][Delete] February 27, 2006
[link: Hits] Rick Reis's Tomorrow's Professor newsletter has been running for years now - it's very popular and often a great read, but the website was so badly (and so mysteriously) updated it was impossible to pass the contents along. But Reis has finally adopted today's technology and launched his newsletter as a blog. Good stuff. [Tags: Newsletters] [Comment] [Edit] [Delete] [Spam]

Stuart Yeates[Edit][Delete]: Johannes Ernst and Scott Wilson on XML Security, EDUCAUSE Blogs [Edit][Delete] February 27, 2006
[link: 3 Hits] I guess some people will be interested in this, so I'll pass it along, but from my perspective there is no great need for XML signatures. XML (at least the RSS variety I work with) works because it is simple and clutter-free. Adding signatures breaks that. [Tags: XML, Metadata] [Comment] [Edit] [Delete] [Spam]

Alan Levine[Edit][Delete]: If I Had More Time..., Cogdogblog [Edit][Delete]CogDogBlog [Edit][Delete] February 27, 2006
[link: Hits] Alan Levine's timing today wasn't a whole lot worse than mine, and like me he has a nice audio recording to show for his efforts, a Podcasting, Schmodcasting demo at GateWay Community College. Oh, and his MP3 files are bigger than mine. Heh. More links and plans for the talk (for the record, I didn't start with the demo, I did the demo on the side while I was talking - a photo Flickr'd, RSS'd, aggregated with MyGlu, edited in RSS Writr and finally tossed onto my blog). Christopher D. Sessums[Edit][Delete]: Free Online Educational Resources, Christopher D. Sessums : Weblog [Edit][Delete] February 27, 2006
[link: 8 Hits] I didn't really get to discuss it in my talk today, but I do want to highlight the importance of free learning resources in this whole learning networks thing. Here's a good place to start. [Tags: Online Learning, Networks] [Comment] [Edit] [Delete] [Spam]

I want and visualize and aspire toward a system of society and learning where each person is able to rise to his or her fullest potential without social or financial encumberance, where they may express themselves fully and without reservation through art, writing, athletics, invention, or even through their avocations or lifestyle.

Where they are able to form networks of meaningful and rewarding relationships with their peers, with people who share the same interests or hobbies, the same political or religious affiliations - or different interests or affiliations, as the case may be.

This to me is a society where knowledge and learning are public goods, freely created and shared, not hoarded or withheld in order to extract wealth or influence.

This is what I aspire toward, this is what I work toward. - Stephen Downes
