Year Book Australia, 2006: School Student's Mathematics and Science Literacy This article discusses mathematics and science literacy of 15 year-old Australian students (approximate grade is Year 10) using data from the PISA 2003 survey. The Australian Council for Educational Research conducted the survey for PISA using 12,600 15 year-old students from 321 government and non-government schools. In all states and territories, Australian 15 year-old students performed on average at least as well as the average performance of students across all OECD countries in the study. School Leavers Benefit from More University Offers This year, main-round offers of university places for school leavers going on to university have increased by 4.4% nationally. In South Australia and the Northern Territory, offers for school leavers are up by 10.5%, and Queensland school leavers enjoyed 8.6% more offers than in 2005. Western Australian year 12 students will enjoy 7.0% more offers than in 2005 and offers to school leavers in Tasmania are up by 3.8% and in Victoria by 3.0%.
