Oriental institute photographic archives The 'Oriental Institute Photographic Archives' Web site is an overview of photographs of archaeological expeditions to ancient sites in the Middle East. All of the expeditions were conducted by the University of Chicago Oriental Institute in the twentieth century. Archaeological sites include: Sakkara, Abu Simel and Luxor in Egypt; Nubia (modern day Sudan); Khorsabad, Tell Asmar (in modern day Iraq); and Persepolis (modern day Iran). Abdul Hamid II collection photography archive The Abdul-Hamid collection photography archive contains over 1,800 photographs from the Ottoman Empire. Dating from approximately 1880 to 1893, the images show scenes within the borders of modern Turkey, as well as Ottoman provinces in Greater Syria, Greece and modern Iraq. The photos in the collection were originally presented to the Library of Congress by Sultan Abdul-Hamid II in 1894. The images are well displayed on dedicated pages and are available as thumbnails. Slavonic and East European collections in the national library of Scotland The website "Slavonic and East European collections in the National Library of Scotland" on the Web site of the National Library of Scotland describes the main areas of purchasing for Slavonic and East European accessions in the NLS and also provides a selective list of the most notable accessions. Russian history web sites The Web Site "Russian history web sites" features a collection of sites about Russian history and the last days of the Romanov dynasty. This is an incredibly richly-illustrated site and the work of an amateur who has long held an interest in the Alexander Palace. Ancient maps of Jerusalem The Ancient Maps of Jerusalem Web site is a joint project of the Jewish National and University Library and the Department of Geography at the Hebrew University of Jerusalem. It contains maps of Jerusalem in the Byzantine, Early Islamic, Crusader and later Medieval periods. Information is given about the map-makers and the history of cartography of Jerusalem. The maps are browseable by cartographer, by date or can be viewed in a gallery section. Each map is a given a full bibliographic record including its title, imprint and physical size. The Oriental institute virtual museum The 'Oriental Institute Virtual Museum' Web site enables a virtual reality tour of the collections of the Oriental Institute Museum which showcases the history, art and archaeology of the ancient Near East.
