Distilling inbound links via del.icio.us and Furl
This is one of those found be serendipity things, what happens when you just freely poke around the web. Maybe it is obvious to many others, but it's new to me. Some folks rely on
technorati for taking a pulse of links going to their content, and it sure provides some good insight. I just blindly stumbled into two ways to look at how other people are connecting to specific URLs you may be responsible for (or just curious about). So it started with an email notification of a Trackback from my post first on

Chemistry Students Building Delicious Link Collections
It is re-assuring when a faculty member investigates a new technology and runs with it. I got a recent email from Liz Dorland, chemistry faculty at Mesa Community College, and maybe one of 7 people in our district who read this blog (You are never famous in your own country, Hi Liz!). She shared form my mentions of it she had done some experimenting with using
Furl to have her chemistry students review web sites relevant to their course content-- the problems she was running into was not being able to separate her own professional Furling from a cl From

Bermuda Blogging
So I haven't been able to get online for a couple of days, but frankly, I'm not minding all that much. We're in Bermuda where tomorrow I'll be doing some blogvangelism at the Whitney Institute Middle School in Devonshire Parish. God save the Queen. Whitney's principal Freddie Evans is doing great things with integrating technology at his school, and his teachers are really enthusiastic about what they can do with it. I'm looking forward to showing them the ways in which blogs and wikis and From

Connotea--Bookmarking Service for Scientists
I saw this reference to Connotea recently in the very valuable Resource Shelf library blog. Over the years I've used various online services to store bookmarks and also installed several bookmark utilitities on my computers. (In addition to trying to keep my bookmarks organized and saved within the browsers that I use.) But the number of interesting resources seems endless, as is the task of keeping them organized. Connotea provides one additional tool to keep up with the task: "Connotea was created by Nature Publishing Group's New Technology From

Another Jade Hiccup
Apologies again, as this server, also the host of
Feed2Js, went south for about 10 hours Friday night - Saturday morning,
just like last week. I had found in the server logs where the services were crashing, but nothing to indicate a cause nor why it was able to restore itself. Given it occurred at the same time, I am suspecting a back up application I set up on the XServe I am using until a new copy of Retrospect arrives. I vow to isolate it this week, as I am away from town the next 2 w From

Adina on friendship
Adina addresses issues Chris Allen raises about the flatness of online social networks. Snippet: I think part of the problem is being a post-freudian modern; intimacy is the ultimate goal of relationship and a source of secular transcendence. We need to go back to a more 18th century concept of public identity to describe the pleasures and rewards of broad acquaintance. Lots more good stuff.... From

The Effect of New Media Distribution on Body Image and Self Esteem
Right now, the costs of distribution and production of film and shows are plummeting.
