Re: Principles for Evaluating Websites
One of my favourites is "Save the North-West Tree Octopus". A few educators have used this one in class, to teach people about trusting what you read. Apparently there was a statewide trial across Connecticut recently.
Another classic last year, was an Australian comic living in New York, who received over 10,000 signatures on a petition calling on the US govt. to repeal their ban on Vegemite (a famous australian toastal-topping). There was no ban.
Both of these articles used a range of strategies to appear completely trustworthy. The octopus has graphics, Latin names, scientific details ..
