Re: The End of Education

hi stephen couldn't get this site to load. Actually, your comments are interesting in and of themselves. With Jay Cross' new book on informal learning we again raise the issue of when formal is needed to keep education or learning from turning into the equivalent of solving the world's problems at half-time in the local pub. Knowledge acquisiton depends on trusted networks for finding and vetting information. For a long time, the formal education system has provided that function- a way to get knowledge in a concentrated and trusted form. It raises the battle over wikipedia and who can contribute and the entire idea that if google finds it, its gotta be true we can wonder- but in this wide world, who has truth? tom tom abeles [Comment] [Permalink]
